Are you ready to make technology work harder for your business? Choosing new accounting software can seem like an overwhelming task, but at EOS we’re ready to help you work through the process.

Your first consideration should be whether you need a full accounting program or a lighter-weight invoicing/expense program that simply helps you to stay on top of your cash flow.

It’s a good idea to start by making a list of all the functions you need your small business accounting software to solve. Things to think about might include:

  • accounts receivable and accounts payable
  • easy-to-use bank reconciliations
  • BAS reporting and other tax office compliance functions
  • reporting tools that put the financial information you need at your fingertips.

Additional functionality you might need for your business might be time billing, invoicing, job management, inventory management and multi-currency conversion, payroll management, and the ability to accommodate multiple users at the same time, or the ability to work across different platforms such as PC/Mac, or on a smart phone or tablet.

We’re finding that many of our clients are increasingly adopting cloud-based accounting software solutions, such as Xero, WorkflowMax, Unleashed and Vend.

These products offer greater flexibility, as it’s possible to access your data from any computer, any time of the day or night. Other benefits of cloud-based solutions include minimal upfront costs and no upgrade fees.

However, a desktop solution such as MYOB may be more to your liking if you’re not ready for the cloud-based options or don’t have access to a reliable internet connection.
